Dr Henri Spronk (Dept of Biochemistry) has been appointed as professor of ‘Biochemistry of Atherothrombosis’ as of 1 May 2024. Henri is biochemist at Maastricht University and his research focus is on the pathophysiology of atherothrombosis and the enhancing effect of coagulation proteins on vascular disease. His multidisciplinary translational research programme includes the identification of determinants and mechanisms involved in the development of atherothrombosis with a special focus on the role of coagulation  enzymes in cardiovascular disease, the identification of biomarkers for early detection of atherothrombosis, and the development of new treatment methods to prevent atherothrombosis. His inaugural lecture will be delivered on 17 January 2025.
